Working at the University of Amsterdam
UvA AI Chat is used by students and staff across the University of Amsterdam. The platform is still in development: new features are added, the interface changes and new use cases are tested regularly. You will work with the team behind UvA AI Chat within the Teaching & Learning Centre (TLC) – AI Living Lab. The team wants accessibility to be part of the development process from the start, rather than something that is checked afterwards. By testing the platform and sharing your findings, you help the team understand how UvA AI Chat works for users with a visual impairment. Together, you work towards a platform that is accessible to as many students and staff as possible.
What will you do as a Student Assistant?
You will test UvA AI Chat from your own perspective as a user and help us understand where the platform works well and where it needs improvement. This may involve:
- navigating the interface
- using UvA AI Chat with a screen reader, magnification software, keyboard navigation or other digital tools
- checking whether buttons, menus, notifications and instructions are clear
- testing common tasks in UvA AI Chat
- giving feedback on new features before they are introduced more widely
- thinking along about improvements for students and staff with a visual impairment
Each testing round takes place on the last Thursday of the month and will last approximately four hours.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for UvA students with a visual impairment who want to contribute to better digital accessibility. You do not need a technical background. What matters most is that you can clearly explain your experience when using digital systems: what works, what takes unnecessary effort, where you get stuck, and what could be made clearer or more accessible. Experience with AI tools, screen readers, magnification software or other digital tools is useful, but not required for all tasks. An interest in AI, digital innovation or accessibility technology would be very welcome.
This is what the University of Amsterdam offers
You can start immediately as a Student Assistant Digital Accessibility for 4 hours per month, for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. The position falls within the Student Assistant salary scale of the Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) for Dutch Universities, which means you will earn a minimum hourly wage of €19,61. Depending on your level of education, your hourly wage can increase up to €19,97.
